Air Force’s Massive REFORPAC Exercise Will Add More Allies, Joint Forces in 2027
The U.S. Air Force will expand its large-scale Pacific exercise, Resolute Force Pacific (REFORPAC), in spring 2027 to include more joint forces and allied nations, according to Gen. Kevin B. Schneider, commander of Pacific Air Forces. The first edition in 2025 was largely Air Force-only, involving around 300 aircraft across Japan and Guam. Planning for the 2027 iteration began immediately after the 2025 exercise. The exercise is part of the service's reoptimization for great power competition, particularly with China. Schneider also noted that PACAF participates in about 45 exercises annually, and his team is evaluating which ones provide the greatest readiness gains, especially given current demands in the CENTCOM region. The focus will be on high-end challenges like fifth-generation fighter tactics, large-scale command and control, and long-range kill chains.
