ABL Selected as Marine Warranty Surveyor for Subsea7's Brazil SURF Project
ABL Energy & Marine Consultants Brasil has been appointed as the marine warranty surveyor (MWS) to support Subsea7 in the transportation and installation of subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines (SURF) infrastructure offshore Brazil. The project focuses on pipelines installed on the FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias at Mero 3 and the FPSO Alexandre de Gusmão at Mero 4, located in the Santos Basin at water depths between 1,850 and 2,100 meters. ABL’s responsibilities include reviewing technical documents, approving operational engineering documentation, conducting fleet suitability surveys, and witnessing critical onshore and offshore operations. The company will also approve limiting environmental criteria and attend HAZID and HAZOP meetings. Andreas Theophanatos, ABL’s regional director for Brazil, highlighted the firm’s previous experience with Mero 1 and 2 as evidence of their capability to ensure safe installations in deep waters. The Mero field consortium, operated by Petrobras alongside partners like Shell, TotalEnergies, CNPC, and CNOOC, currently operates four FPSOs with a combined production capacity of 770,000 barrels of oil per day.
