Bloomberg reports that DeepSeek's latest AI model has reduced the amount of high-bandwidth memory required, raising concerns about semiconductor demand strength. On Friday, SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics shares fell 2.2% and 3.5% respectively, eroding the initial rebound after a sharp selloff in July. Ha Seok-keun, chief investment officer at Eugene Asset Management, said the new model could spark short-term concerns about slowing semiconductor demand, but new models from companies like Meta Platforms and OpenAI "will have a greater impact on industry fundamentals by boosting actual AI usage and semiconductor demand."
