Laura Schmitt's Spain World Cup Debut Draws Frenzy; Says Won't Watch Without Wearing Spain Jersey

Now the glamour couple is rocking the World Cup. Former RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo led Spain to their first tournament victory against Saudi Arabia (4–0) on Sunday. His German girlfriend, Laura "Abla" Schmitt, drew all eyes in the stands in Atlanta – and drove the internet crazy with her outfit.

With Olmo Jersey and Lagerfeld Necklace

Laura was not yet in the USA for Spain's first game. Olmo had not been in the starting lineup, and the result was a sobering 0–0 draw against Cape Verde. Now, the World Cup explosion for the Spaniards – and the German influencer is right in the middle of it, wearing a self-designed outfit that is causing a stir.

The native North German wore a tailored World Cup jersey with her boyfriend's number 10 on it, paired with a football necklace from Chanel, which Karl Lagerfeld designed for the 1998 World Cup in France. "I'm hyped," Laura said on her podcast Pretty Best Strangers, adding: "It's the first time I'm seeing him play in the World Cup."

Between Hate and Compliments

Comments on her social media platforms are exploding. "Machine, hottest, premium," can be read there. Her boyfriend Dani Olmo posted a star emoji alongside it, standing for "star." Laura received endless compliments:

• "How can someone look so good"
• "Now it's clear why Spain won"

She has also been called the "lucky charm" of the Spaniards. One user wrote: "As soon as Laura is there, things go well for Spain."

Balm for Laura's soul – because she experienced two years ago how negative the internet can be when it comes to football. "That was a traumatic time because I was so hated," the model reported in detail on her podcast. "I received hate messages. They wrote to me that I should give up my passport and that I'm a stupid traitor whore."

Fear of Attacks in Germany

The situation escalated especially after the European Championship quarterfinal, which Spain won against Germany in Stuttgart following a controversial handball incident. "When the final whistle blew, it was so bad. I have never received so many messages. I felt that every German football fan who was angry at Spain targeted me because I am the most accessible link related to that Spanish team," Laura reported.

She continued: "It was so bad that I was advised not to go out to celebrate with the families of the Spanish national team that evening. The team staff were afraid that people might throw things at me. I cried all night."

All because she cheers for her boyfriend's team. "That's why it annoys me so much that people are angry that I'm wearing a Spain jersey," she clarified. "If I didn't wear a Spain jersey, I wouldn't wear any. I wouldn't care about the World Cup. I didn't watch the last World Cup in Qatar."

Now she is in the middle of it – and causing excitement.
