On Saturday, October 24, nearly 410,000 people demonstrated across France according to the Interior Ministry, while the CGT union claimed over 800,000 participants. The protests, involving Yellow Vests, unions, high school and university students, focused on purchasing power, public services, and tax and social justice. Marches were largely peaceful, but clashes occurred at the end of some routes, notably in Paris, Marseille, and Strasbourg. In Paris, the administrative court rejected organizers' appeal against the police-prefecture-imposed route, which they accepted to avoid risks; the authorized procession went from Porte d'Italie to Porte de Vincennes via the Boulevards des Maréchaux. In Marseille, the administrative court partially suspended the prefectural ban on demonstrations in Bouches-du-Rhône, allowing gatherings in some towns. In Orléans, 11,000 to 26,000 people protested against the National Rally, which held a congress there that weekend.
Source report
On Saturday, October 24, "Gilets jaunes" protesters, trade unions, high school students, and university students marched in a new day of mobilization amid extremely high tensions, following the banning of numerous processions and under very heavy security. The demands were diverse but converged around purchasing power, the defense of public services, and fiscal and social justice.
Paris
In Paris, the administrative court had rejected, on Saturday morning, the appeal filed by demonstration organizers against the route imposed by the Prefecture of Police. The unions and organizers of the Paris demonstration accepted this route in order not to "put demonstrators at risk." The authorized procession therefore finally set off from Porte d'Italie at 2 p.m. to reach Porte de Vincennes via the Boulevards des Maréchaux.
Marseille
In Marseille, the administrative court of Marseille partially suspended the prefectural decree banning all demonstrations in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, ultimately authorizing gatherings in a few towns across the department.
Orléans
In Orléans, some 11,000 people according to the prefecture — 26,000 according to organizers — took part at noon on Saturday in the demonstration against the Rassemblement National, as the city hosted a congress of the far-right party over the weekend.
