US President Donald Trump claimed at a campaign rally in Georgia that he proposed renaming the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean as 'Trump Ocean' to Google representatives, who allegedly refused, saying 'Jetzt reicht's' (enough is enough). Trump said he sent Google a map labeled 'Trump Ocean,' but officials rejected it, noting oceans span many countries. He said the idea was a joke 'this time,' though he added it wasn't the worst idea he'd had. It remains unclear whether the exchange actually occurred. Trump previously renamed the Gulf of Mexico as 'Gulf of America' by decree in 2025 and Lake Ontario as 'Lake America' in August, with Google Maps adopting both changes for US users. He has also floated renaming the Strait of Hormuz as 'Trump Strait.'

Should the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean be renamed "Trump Ocean" in the future? US President Donald Trump allegedly made this proposal to Google representatives — who reportedly rejected it.
US President Donald Trump thrilled his supporters with his account of an alleged attempt to name an ocean after himself — and Google's blocking of the idea. At a campaign appearance in the state of Georgia, he claimed to have proposed renaming the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean to "Trump Ocean" during a conversation with representatives of the internet company. They had reportedly responded indignantly: "That's enough. That's it. We're not doing this anymore."
Previously, Trump had already renamed the Gulf of Mexico to "Gulf of America" by decree in 2025, and in August of this year, Lake Ontario on the border with Canada followed with the name "Lake America". Google Maps adopted both changes for users in the USA.

Trump told his supporters that he had sent Google a map labeled "Trump Ocean." However, the officials had rejected it: "Sir, listen, okay, we can't do that. Oceans are something different. They extend across many, many countries." Trump said he had meant it only as a joke — this time. However, he added afterward: "Even if it wasn't the worst idea I've ever had." Whether the exchange with Google actually occurred as described was initially unclear.
Trump has already signaled several times that he would also like to rename an ocean. Most recently, he had also flirted with the idea of calling the Strait of Hormuz the "Trump Strait" in the future. However, his primary aim was presumably to provoke the war opponent Iran. The strait between the Iranian and Omani coasts connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
