BMW Group has officially launched trial production of its energy smart control system at the powertrain plant in its Shenyang, China production base, according to Gasgoo. This marks the full localization of all core links for the sixth-generation high-voltage battery in China, including R&D, parts supply, cell manufacturing, battery pack assembly, and the energy smart control system. The energy smart control system, developed entirely in-house by BMW, serves as the central control unit for the sixth-generation battery, mounted on top of the battery pack to ensure safety and intelligent operation. To meet high precision requirements, the Shenyang plant used virtual planning and simulation before physical equipment installation. The Shenyang powertrain plant is now the only BMW facility outside Germany capable of producing the system and the only one globally integrating casting, engine, battery, and control system production on one site. Bai Yaochen, plant manager of BMW Brilliance Powertrain Plant, stated that cross-functional collaboration across production, R&D, and procurement has prepared processes, systems, and personnel for mass production this year. Milan Nedeljković, BMW board member for production, called the move a significant milestone for industrializing sixth-generation e-drive technology in China, reinforcing BMW's localization strategy for the Neue Klasse models.

The Energy Intelligence Control System serves as the central control unit for the sixth-generation high-voltage battery. Both its hardware and software are independently developed by BMW. Installed on top of the battery pack, the system is responsible for ensuring the safe and intelligent operation of the high-voltage battery.
Given the system's high precision requirements, the Shenyang plant employed virtual planning and commissioning technologies to simulate different production scenarios before physical equipment installation. This approach allowed the team to identify optimization opportunities in advance and reduce project implementation risks.
Currently, the Shenyang powertrain plant is the only BMW facility outside Germany with the capability to produce the Energy Intelligence Control System. It is also the only plant in BMW's global production network that integrates casting, engine, powertrain battery, and energy intelligence control system production within a single site.
Bai Yaochen, Plant Director of BMW Brilliance Powertrain Plant, stated that cross-functional collaboration across production, R&D, and procurement has already prepared the processes, systems, and personnel for mass production this year. Dr. Michael Nikolaides, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, noted that this achievement represents an important milestone in the industrialization of sixth-generation e-drive technology in China. He added that BMW is continuously advancing its localized production and supply strategy, further strengthening the industrial foundation for the development of the Neue Klasse models in China.
