Son of Berlin Clan Boss Speaks Out as Left Party Lawmaker's Ties to Pro-Palestinian Activist Emerge

At the Left Party's election party in Berlin, the presence of controversial guests has drawn criticism. Alongside Berlin clan boss Issa Remmo, pro-Palestinian activist Ibrahim Ibrahim was also in attendance.

Following the appearance of clan boss Issa Remmo, another guest at the Left Party's election celebration has come under fire. Published messages also suggest a connection between Bundestag member Ferat Koçak and the Remmo clan.

Controversial Guest: Ibrahim Ibrahim

After the Left Party's electoral victory in Berlin, the presence of additional controversial figures at the party's festivities has sparked criticism. Alongside Berlin clan boss Issa Remmo, pro-Palestinian activist Ibrahim Ibrahim was also present at the election party, as confirmed by photographs. The portal "T-Online" also reported on Ibrahim's attendance, citing posts by Berlin journalists on social media.

The organization Democ, which monitors antisemitism and extremism, associates Ibrahim with the milieu of the Palestinian organization PFLP, which is classified as a terrorist organization by the European Union. According to the organization, Ibrahim had publicly referred to the 2024 killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar as a "martyr hero."

Connection to Left Party MP Ferat Koçak

Additional attention was drawn by a photo showing Ibrahim together with Left Party Bundestag member Ferat Koçak. Koçak won the direct mandate in Berlin-Neukölln in 2025.

In an Instagram story, Koçak emphasized on Monday that the election party in Neukölln was publicly accessible. He wrote: "When people approach me at our election parties and want to take a photo with me, I initially assume that is fine. I expressly distance myself from any statements glorifying violence or terrorism made by the person in question."

Messages Suggest Ties to Remmo Clan

While Koçak distances himself from Ibrahim, a previously published Instagram message suggests the politician's proximity to the Remmo clan. Firat Remmo, son of clan boss Issa Remmo, posted a screenshot of a message late Sunday that he claims Ferat Koçak sent him. According to the post, Koçak wrote to Remmo: "Greetings with respect back to your father. When will you be in the office? I can stop by in the morning. I have WhatsApp. Just need to set it so I don't always get your automatic reply [sic]." The screenshot does not indicate when this message was sent.

On February 17 of this year, Koçak allegedly wrote again: "Brother, help me spread this. Tell all your people to share this please [sic]." Koçak attached a video in which he warns in a Bundestag speech about a "historic permanent debate" on the topic of clan crime. Firat Remmo replied to his message: "Sure, brother."

Remmo accompanied the screenshot with the comment: "We are part of something big. We stand together, we stick together, and we fight for our goals. We are winners. We are doers. We are a team."

Party Leadership Responds

The presence of Firat Remmo's father Issa at Left Party events on Sunday had previously sparked debate. Left Party top candidate Elif Eralp emphasized that Remmo had not been invited and was sent away. She stated that her party has nothing to do with organized crime. On Monday, Left Party chairwoman Schwerdtner and Eralp reiterated their distance from the matter.

At the federal press conference, Schwerdtner explained that Remmo was immediately uninvited as soon as he was recognized. "We as a party take this very seriously," Schwerdtner emphasized. "We will ensure within the party that something like this does not happen."

Eralp stated that glorification of violence and terrorism is unacceptable. She gave a pledge of protection so that people in Berlin could feel safe again. The top priority is that Jewish, Muslim, and queer people can feel safe again. The Remmo family is associated with clan crime and linked to serious criminal offenses.

Political Reactions

Criticism came from Brandenburg's Interior Minister Jan Redmann (CDU). He told "Bild": "When clan bosses and Islamists celebrate the Left Party's election victory in Berlin, that bodes ill for internal security." The promised cuts to police and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution during the election campaign would also have negative effects on Brandenburg, as organized crime operates across state borders.
