Dortmund new signing Konstantelias suspected of cruciate ligament tear

Borussia Dortmund's new signing, Christos Konstantelias, made an impactful start in the match against Hamburg before being forced off with a worrying knee injury.

First-Half Performance

During stoppage time in the first half, the Greek midfielder's shot forced an own goal from a Hamburg defender, extending Dortmund's lead to 2-0.

Injury Incident

Shortly after the second half began, Konstantelias collided with a Hamburg player. He appeared to twist his knee while planting his left foot, then fell to the ground in pain, clutching his left knee.

After several minutes of treatment, the 23-year-old was substituted in the 54th minute, with Marcel Sabitzer coming on as his replacement.

Club Reaction

Sporting Director Book said after the match:

"At first, I really felt sorry for the kid. He just arrived here, and from day one, he has shown a great presence in the locker room and brought energy on the pitch. We've all grown to like him very much. He played so well in the first half, with an outstanding individual performance, only to be forced off, and with everyone worried it might be a more serious injury—it was really frustrating at the time. We are indeed concerned that the final diagnosis could be severe."

When asked about the possibility of an ACL tear, Book replied: "That concern definitely exists."

Head Coach Niko Kovac was equally worried. He stated that Konstantelias would undergo examinations the next day and revealed that the doctors' initial assessment did not sound promising.

Prior Form

Before the injury, Konstantelias had impressed with excellent ball control, active movement range, and creativity.

Dortmund now awaits further test results.
