US Space Force unveils new ceremonial uniform for Honor Guard, bolstering service identity

The United States Space Force has unveiled a new, original ceremonial dress uniform for its Honor Guard, marking a significant step in establishing the service's distinct identity seven years after its creation. The uniform, which features dark gray pants and shirt, a dark blue coat with a diagonal closure and hexagonal Space Force symbol, a dark cap with delta insignia, white gloves, and a light blue belt and shoulder rope, will debut publicly on August 23 at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix IndyCar event in Washington, D.C. Previously, Space Force personnel, including the Honor Guard, used modified Air Force uniforms. The design was finalized over eight months following guidance released in January. Chief Master Sgt. Ross Koehler, senior enlisted leader for the USSF Honor Guard, stated the uniform will allow the public to immediately recognize Guardians. The Space Force, the smallest military branch with only a few thousand active members, has been working to create its own identity, including revising its standard dress uniform, which new graduates first wore in late 2025.
