SportsJulian Alvarez was jeered and insulted by Atletico Madrid fans during his first appearance since expressing a desire to leave, amid interest from Barcelona and Arsenal. The 26-year-old Argentina striker was whistled when his name was read out, during warm-ups, and upon entering the match as a substitute in a 2-2 draw with Villarreal. At full time, he did not applaud fans and an Atletico scarf was thrown at his feet. Coach Diego Simeone said it was the club's decision for Alvarez not to approach the fans. Atletico Madrid's leadership sources indicate they would consider a €150 million offer for Alvarez, but only from Arsenal, not from Barcelona or Real Madrid. Arsenal have a longstanding interest and have had contacts with the player's camp and Atletico, but are waiting for encouragement from Alvarez. Barcelona view Alvarez as their top target but are pessimistic about signing him due to Atletico's inflexibility. The situation is described as increasingly untenable.
