SportsShakhtar Donetsk, unable to play in Ukraine due to the war with Russia, have agreed with Chelsea to use Stamford Bridge as their home venue for the 2026-27 Champions League group stage. The Ukrainian club will play four home matches at the London stadium, subject to regulatory approvals. Discussions involved Chelsea, Brentford, and Fulham, with Chelsea chosen due to availability (they failed to qualify for European competition this season) and a strong relationship from the Mykhailo Mudryk transfer. Chelsea will retain full operational control, managing matchday logistics including security and stewarding. Shakhtar previously used venues in Germany, Slovenia, and Poland for European matches.
