Pinarayi Vijayan rejects hawala allegations, claims family being targeted

Leader of the Opposition in the Keralam Assembly, Pinarayi Vijayan, strongly rejected allegations of hawala dealings involving himself, his daughter T. Veena, or any family member. Responding to questions in Thrissur on August 22, 2026, about an Enforcement Directorate (ED) money laundering investigation, Vijayan asserted his hands are clean and will remain clean. He stated that his daughter has cooperated with the ED probe and will continue to provide any information sought. Vijayan alleged that Veena is being targeted because she is his daughter, and questioned the ED's decision to issue a press release on the case. He also noted that the amount under discussion is not particularly large and that his daughter is not a very rich person.
