Russian Navy begins sea trials of Khabarovsk submarine capable of carrying Poseidon nuclear torpedoes

The Russian Navy has commenced sea trials of the submarine Khabarovsk, which is designed to carry Poseidon nuclear torpedoes. According to Ukrainian portal Defence Express, the vessel left the port of Severodvinsk and was directed to the White Sea, marking its first time at sea. The Khabarovsk has been under construction since 2014 and was launched in November 2025. It is expected to feature six launchers for Poseidon torpedoes, making it the second submarine with such capabilities after the Belgorod. The Poseidon torpedo is a nuclear-powered unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) that Russian President Vladimir Putin claims has no equivalent worldwide, designed to cause catastrophic damage via radioactive tsunamis. Western analysts, however, suggest Moscow is exaggerating the weapon's capabilities. The Khabarovsk is slated to enter service with the Russian Pacific Fleet.
