PoliticsThe U.S. Department of State has approved a potential $4.5 billion Foreign Military Sale to Qatar for the purchase of up to four KC-46A Pegasus aerial refueling aircraft and related equipment. The proposed sale includes eight PW4062 turbofan engines, AN/ALR-69A radar warning receivers, Guardian Laser Transmitter Assemblies for Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasure systems, and other support equipment. The U.S. government stated the sale will enhance Qatar's defense capabilities, interoperability with U.S. and allied forces, and reinforce Qatar's strategic role in regional security. Principal contractors include Boeing, Pratt & Whitney Military Engines, RTX Corporation, and Northrop Grumman Corporation. The announcement comes amid ongoing questions about security features of a Qatari-donated Air Force One aircraft modified for U.S. presidential use.
