FinanceReliance Industries and Rolls-Royce have announced their intent to partner on the design, development, and potential manufacture of a sovereign combat engine for India's Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme. The proposed collaboration aims to explore creating a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India and consider broader cooperation in defense, civil aerospace, and emerging propulsion technologies. Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgiç highlighted the partnership as a milestone toward building a self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in India, aligning with the government's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiative. This development marks a notable shift from India's longstanding partnership with French engine maker Safran, which had been expected to support the engine's development. The announcement follows Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's (HAL) withdrawal from its previous role in the AMCA fighter jet initiative earlier this year.
