U.S. logistics and manufacturing sector cuts over 7,000 jobs in new wave of layoffs

A new wave of layoffs and facility closures is sweeping across U.S. freight, distribution, and manufacturing networks, affecting more than 7,000 workers. The largest reduction comes from Tyson Foods, eliminating over 3,000 jobs due to a historic cattle shortage, closing facilities in Illinois and Utah. Wholesale distributor Essendant warned of cuts affecting over 1,200 employees across six states as it seeks capital or a buyer. Other major reductions include Postal Center International (457 jobs), HelloFresh (374 jobs), Daimler Truck (375 jobs), and Carlex Glass America (325 jobs). FedEx is cutting 173 jobs in Southern California as part of its Network 2.0 transformation. Ryder, CJ Logistics America, Saddle Creek Corp., and several other logistics and manufacturing firms also announced closures. The cuts span food processing, parcel delivery, warehousing, trucking, and commercial vehicle manufacturing, reflecting broad economic distress in the freight sector.
