SportsFrench second-tier soccer club Dijon FCO has launched an innovative initiative for the 2026-27 season, replacing traditional season ticket cards with club scarves embedded with near-field communication (NFC) chips. Fans can enter the Stade Gaston Gerard by scanning the scarf's owl-emblazoned patch at turnstiles, and the scarves also function as cashless payment wallets for concessions. Developed with ticketing firm Weezevent (whose CEO is Dijon's club president), the system aims to modernize the fan experience and strengthen visual identity. While a first in France, similar scarf-based entry systems have been trialed by FC Koln (2022) and permanently adopted by FC St Gallen. Other NFC innovations include Mexico's 'Jersey Pay' for beer purchases and Atletico Mineiro's chip-enabled shirts for digital content access.
