PoliticsThe Indian Department of Defence Production (DDP) has notified the sixth Positive Indigenisation List comprising 405 strategically important defence items, with an estimated business potential of ₹3,070 crore. The list includes line replaceable units, sub-systems, spares, and components for platforms such as the advanced light helicopter, Su-30MKI, light combat aircraft, T-72 and T-90 tanks, warships, and missile systems like Konkurs-M and MRSAM. Of the 405 items, 16 pertain to the Indian Coast Guard and 389 to defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs). The government aims to reduce import dependence under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Since the SRIJAN Defence Portal launched in 2020, over 33,000 items have been offered for indigenisation, with more than 15,700 successfully developed domestically, resulting in an import substitution value of about ₹9,000 crore. DPSUs have placed procurement orders worth approximately ₹10,000 crore with domestic vendors up to March 2026.
