The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected President Donald Trump's latest attempt to overturn a federal civil jury verdict finding him liable for sexually abusing and defaming writer E. Jean Carroll. The court's order, issued without explanation, leaves Trump with no remaining legal options to challenge the verdict, according to Carroll's attorney Roberta Kaplan. The jury had awarded Carroll $5 million in damages, and she was paid over $5.6 million last month including post-judgment interest. The Supreme Court had previously denied an earlier appeal by Trump. Trump's legal team argued for a rehearing citing presidential immunity issues related to a separate $83.3 million defamation verdict against Trump, which the high court has not yet decided. The 2023 verdict stemmed from Carroll's allegation that Trump sexually abused her in a Manhattan department store in the 1990s and then defamed her in 2019.
