TechComcast announced the expansion of its Xfinity home security offerings with a new platform called Xfinity Shield, which combines Wi-Fi-based protection, cybersecurity, and family controls. The platform is available at no additional cost for Xfinity Internet customers, with a $15-per-month premium tier that adds an indoor camera, door and window sensors, cloud video storage, and 24/7 urgent response. Comcast product chief Fraser Stirling stated the company is lowering the barrier to entry for a total security product. The move aims to make Comcast's broadband service stickier amid intense competition for subscribers. Comcast noted that the average Xfinity customer now connects 36 devices to WiFi, and its network identifies, filters, and blocks an average of 30 million threats daily. The platform integrates cybersecurity, WiFi Motion (which uses the Xfinity Gateway and connected devices to detect movement), and family controls within the Xfinity app, supported by AI capabilities across the network.
