PoliticsU.S. Space Command (SPACECOM) has begun intelligence operations at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, less than a year after President Trump reversed a Biden-era decision to keep the command in Colorado. Roughly 50 employees are already conducting missions with the Joint Intelligence Support element (JISE), performing space analysis and coordinating with allies. The command plans to have 200 of its 1,800 Colorado-based positions at the Alabama base by year's end, with half relocated by 2028 and full completion by 2032. Gen. Stephen Whiting highlighted that the new purpose-built headquarters will be an 'incredible accelerant' to the mission, unlike the existing Colorado facility. The move follows years of political controversy, including congressional probes and a 2023 Biden reversal, with recent GAO and DoD IG reports questioning the basing decision process.
