FinanceJane Street, a major market maker, posted approximately $15 billion in losses in July 2025, its first monthly decline in about ten years. The losses were driven by a downturn in AI-focused hedge fund Situational Awareness, which faced margin calls after AI bets soured, and wrong-way bets in Asian equity markets. Despite the setback, Jane Street has generated over $40 billion in net trading revenue so far this year, surpassing its record 2025 performance. The firm is refinancing $14.6 billion in debt and has reduced risk in affected areas. Partner Turner Batty noted the firm's positions are now appropriate for its risk tolerance, and market volumes remain strong.
