PoliticsU.S. Space Command (SPACECOM) has begun intelligence operations at its nascent headquarters at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, less than a year after President Trump reversed a Biden-era decision to keep the command in Colorado. Roughly 50 employees are already conducting missions with the Joint Intelligence Support element (JISE), performing analysis for space operations and coordinating with allies. By year's end, SPACECOM plans to have about 200 of the 1,800 Colorado-based positions at the Alabama base. The move follows a years-long political fight, including congressional probes and a 2023 reversal by President Biden. A 2025 GAO report found that keeping the headquarters in Colorado would require new military construction. Gen. Stephen Whiting stated the goal is to have half of SPACECOM at Redstone by 2028, with full move-in by 2032. The command's joint operations center will remain in Colorado until the new headquarters is completed.
