DHL Express completes $204M Shenzhen super gateway expansion, tripling daily capacity to 992 tons

DHL Express has completed a $204 million expansion of its 'super gateway' at Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport in Guangdong province, tripling shipping capacity to 992 tons per day. The project, the company's largest investment in mainland China, enables more direct cargo flights and supports cross-border trade in one of China's key manufacturing regions. The heavily automated facility features high-speed sorting systems, robotic arms, and automated guided vehicles. Annual throughput is expected to exceed 286,000 tons. DHL also introduced a new dedicated air route with a Boeing 767 freighter linking Shanghai, Bangkok, Bahrain, and Brussels to meet demand between China and Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. The expansion supports target sectors including AI data centers, semiconductors, technology, life sciences, healthcare, and electric batteries, as well as e-commerce. DHL Group's second-quarter profit grew 22% on $25.8 billion in revenue.
