ConflictLuigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges on Friday, reversing his earlier not guilty plea in a case related to the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The guilty plea, entered in a Manhattan federal court before Judge Margaret Garnett, carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. Mangione still faces state murder charges in a trial scheduled for September 8, but his attorneys are expected to seek dismissal on double jeopardy grounds. The case has drawn widespread attention due to the brazen nature of the December 2024 shooting and the subsequent manhunt that ended at a Pennsylvania McDonald's. Mangione has also attracted a following online and in person.
