ConflictLockheed Martin has released the first video footage of its GRIZZLY container-based rocket launcher, showing a successful test firing of a Hellfire missile from a 10-foot Tricon container. The concept, first announced in March, aims to distribute missile launchers among standard shipping containers to complicate adversary reconnaissance and counter large-scale attacks like those seen in Ukraine. However, the system raises economic questions, as Hellfire missiles cost mid-five to low-six figures per unit, and the decentralized approach requires more units than centralized systems. Additionally, international law concerns arise if armed containers are disguised as civilian cargo, potentially violating Geneva Conventions' distinction between military and civilian objects. Rheinmetall also presented a similar Containerized Missile Launcher (CML) at Eurosatory, primarily for loitering munitions.
