PoliticsU.S. Space Command has begun intelligence operations at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, less than a year after President Trump reversed a Biden-era decision to keep the command in Colorado. Roughly 50 of the planned 200 employees are already conducting missions with the Joint Intelligence Support element (JISE), performing space analysis and coordinating with allies. The permanent headquarters is under construction, with a goal of half the 1,800 Colorado-based positions moved to Alabama by 2028 and full completion by 2032. Gen. Stephen Whiting, the command's leader, highlighted that the new facility will be a purpose-built command-and-control headquarters, unlike the existing Colorado facility. The move follows years of political controversy, including congressional probes and a 2023 Biden reversal, which was later questioned by a 2025 DoD Inspector General report. A 2025 GAO report noted that keeping the headquarters in Colorado would require new military construction.
