Aiden Craig, 18, as the recruit who died on August 5 after suffering a medical emergency four days earlier during a physical fitness test at Camp Pendleton, California. Originally from Texas, Craig enlisted on June 1, 2026, and was assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. He experienced the emergency on the 47th training day of boot camp, when West Coast recruits take the Corps' physical fitness test. Craig was hospitalized at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside at the time of his death. He posthumously earned the title of Marine. No details about the type of medical emergency were immediately available, and the Marine Corps is investigating the incident. Deaths during boot camp are rare given the tens of thousands of recruits trained annually.
