PoliticsPresident Donald Trump announced on August 12, 2026, that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will resign by the end of August. Leavitt, 28, the youngest press secretary in history, is leaving to spend more time with her two young children, including a daughter born on May 1. Trump expressed understanding and respect for her decision in a Truth Social post. Leavitt will transition to a role as one of Trump's top outside advisors and work with the Republican Party to win the upcoming November midterm elections. In her own statement, Leavitt described balancing motherhood with the demanding job as rewarding but challenging, ultimately deciding she could not be the best mother while serving as press secretary.
