TechBrad Lightcap, a senior OpenAI executive and former chief operating officer, announced on August 11, 2026, that he will leave the company to start a new venture. Lightcap, who joined OpenAI in 2018 after working with CEO Sam Altman at Y Combinator, had shifted in April to a role focused on special projects. OpenAI stated his departure will not impact teams as his responsibilities had already moved away from day-to-day management. The announcement comes as OpenAI prepares for an initial public offering amid growing demand for AI. Lightcap's exit follows Fidji Simo, OpenAI's CEO of AGI deployment, who stepped down in July to a part-time advisory role after medical leave. CEO Sam Altman expressed excitement about future collaboration with Lightcap.
