Aiden Craig, 18, as the recruit who died on August 5 after suffering a medical emergency four days earlier during a physical fitness test at Camp Pendleton, California. Craig, originally from Texas, enlisted on June 1, 2026, and was assigned to Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. He experienced the emergency on the 47th training day of boot camp, when West Coast recruits take the Corps' physical fitness test. He was hospitalized at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside at the time of his death. Craig posthumously earned the title of Marine. The Marine Corps is investigating the incident, and no details about the type of emergency have been released. Deaths during boot camp are rare given the thousands of recruits trained annually.
