ConflictA Danish combat battalion of approximately 850 soldiers has begun its rotation in Latvia, joining the Canadian-led Multinational Brigade Latvia (MNB-LVA). This deployment, announced by NATO Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS), is part of Multinational Division North (MND-N), which is commanded by a Danish major general and headquartered in Latvia. The integration of national forces into multinational formations is intended to strengthen NATO's readiness, interoperability, and ability to defend its eastern flank, particularly in the Baltic Sea region. The Danish soldiers are scheduled to be stationed in Latvia until January 2027. This deployment follows Canada's recent joining of Multinational Division North and marks another reinforcement of NATO's eastern flank amid ongoing security concerns.
