DOGE claimed $1.76B savings from terminated military health IT contract; GAO found contract never terminated

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) reported $1.76 billion in savings from terminating a Defense Health Agency (DHA) IT contract supporting over 700 military medical facilities. However, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that the contract was never terminated, no work was removed, no scope or value was reduced, and no funds were deobligated. After DHA officials discussed the contract with DOGE, DOGE agreed not to terminate it, yet the savings claim remains on DOGE's public 'Wall of Receipts.' GAO could not verify DOGE's methodology as DOGE did not respond to requests for documentation. The GAO review also found broader discrepancies, with 2,503 contracts representing $27.4 billion in reported savings having no termination action recorded in federal procurement data.
