FinanceBoeing is selling three subsidiaries—Wisk Aero, SkyGrid, and Insitu—to Archer Aviation in exchange for a 19.75% stake in the eVTOL startup. The deal, announced on August 10, 2026, strengthens Archer's position in developing electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft and supporting networks, while also expanding its military portfolio via Insitu. Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, who has emphasized streamlining the aerospace giant, said the move allows Boeing to focus on its core commercial airplanes, defense, and space operations. Archer shares rose nearly 12% on the news. Archer CEO Adam Goldstein called the acquisition a major step toward becoming a diversified platform and scaling the business. Both companies expect to benefit as Archer targets commercial eVTOL flights by late 2026 or early 2027.
