PoliticsDaniel Kinahan, a 49-year-old suspected Irish transnational cartel boss, was extradited from the United Arab Emirates to Ireland on August 9, 2026, after being arrested in Dubai in April on an Irish warrant for alleged serious organised crime offences. He landed at Casement Aerodrome, a military air base near Dublin, and was expected to be formally arrested and taken to the Special Criminal Court to face charges of directing an organised crime group. The Kinahan Organised Crime Group (KOCG) is alleged to be Ireland's most powerful criminal organisation, with wealth estimated at over €1 billion. The U.S. government had imposed sanctions on Kinahan in 2022 and offered a $5 million reward. Irish and UAE officials hailed the extradition as a landmark in judicial cooperation. Kinahan is the second senior cartel figure extradited from Dubai; Sean McGovern, a senior lieutenant, was extradited in 2024 and sentenced to 24 years in prison.
