SportsArsenal have completed the £75 million signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, a move that closes a long-running transfer saga. Arsenal had the chance to sign the Brazilian from Lyon in January 2022, but Mikel Arteta decided against it. Four and a half years later, after Guimaraes became Newcastle's captain and one of the Premier League's best midfielders, Arsenal made him a priority. The deal includes no performance-related add-ons, though Lyon and Guimaraes' former Brazilian clubs will receive portions of the fee. Arsenal entered the window needing a central midfielder after losing Christian Norgaard to Everton and being priced out of a move for Sandro Tonali, who joined Tottenham. Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta view Guimaraes as a complete midfielder who can play as a No. 6 or No. 8, adding passing ability and leadership to the squad.
