US Navy Fires Top Auditor Donjette Gilmore Over Harassment, Bias Probe

The Navy has removed Donjette Gilmore as auditor general of the Navy Audit Service following a Pentagon Inspector General investigation. The 42-page report found that Gilmore habitually harassed and belittled subordinates, creating a hostile work environment. Specific allegations include mocking employees' appearance, weight, and smell; telling single parents 'nobody told you all to have kids'; and ordering subordinates to 'shut up' in meetings. The investigation also found that Gilmore showed apparent favoritism in hiring, with eight African American women hired for 13 of 17 positions, often without competitive processes. Additionally, she allegedly tried to hide negative feedback from command climate surveys and pressured a subordinate to file sexual harassment allegations to discredit a rival, Ronnie Booth. Gilmore has been placed on administrative leave. The Navy published new guidance on command climate transparency, though officials did not confirm a direct link to this case.
