National Coast Guard Museum to open Aug 2, 2027 in New London, Connecticut

The National Coast Guard Museum in New London, Connecticut, is set to open on August 2, 2027, with a dedication ceremony on Coast Guard Day, August 4, 2027, marking the service's 237th anniversary. The 80,000-square-foot facility will feature three exhibit floors, interactive displays, over 5,000 photos, and 600 artifacts, including an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter and the Medal of Honor awarded to Signalman First Class Douglas Munro. The project, decades in the making, received significant funding from Congress—nearly $50 million in 2022 and another $50 million in 2025—along with $20 million from the state of Connecticut. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday described the museum as a permanent tribute to the service's history and personnel. The museum will complete the set of national museums for all U.S. armed services except the Space Force.
