National Coast Guard Museum set to open August 2, 2027

The National Coast Guard Museum, decades in the making, is scheduled to open on August 2, 2027, on the banks of the Thames River in New London, Connecticut. The 80,000-square-foot facility will feature three exhibit floors with over 5,000 photos and 600 artifacts, including an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter and the Medal of Honor awarded to Signalman First Class Douglas Munro. The museum's dedication is planned for Coast Guard Day, August 4, 2027, marking the service's 237th anniversary. Funding included $20 million from Connecticut, nearly $50 million from Congress in 2022, and another $50 million from the federal government in 2025. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday said the museum will honor the 'Long Blue Line' of service members. With this opening, all U.S. armed services except the Space Force will have national museums.
