ConflictTaiwan's Army deployed M1A2T Abrams tanks to Taoyuan International Airport for the first time during the third day of the Han Kuang No. 42 exercise, an annual live combat drill. The exercise simulated a Chinese airborne assault to seize the airport, treating it as a strategic chokepoint for northern Taiwan. Four M1A2T tanks and six Yunpao armored vehicles participated, alongside civilian airport personnel. The drill included setting up barriers and practicing irreversible obstruction operations to deny enemy use of the facility. The M1A2T tanks, part of a $2 billion U.S. Foreign Military Sales package, represent Taiwan's largest tank modernization in over 30 years, with the first operational battalion activated in October 2025 under the 6th Army Corps responsible for defending northern Taiwan.
