International Motors to lay off 1,341 workers in Ohio after sale to Roshel

International Motors, a Lisle, Illinois-based truck manufacturer, is laying off 1,341 employees at two facilities in Springfield, Ohio, following the sale of the operations to Canadian defense and commercial vehicle manufacturer Roshel. The layoffs, effective October 2, 2026, affect 1,314 workers at the Springfield Assembly Plant and 27 at the Truck Specialty Center. Most employees are represented by the United Auto Workers. The sale was prompted by the expiration of a contract manufacturing agreement with a major automotive company on September 30, 2026. Roshel plans to transform the 2-million-square-foot campus into a U.S. production hub for commercial, specialty, and armored vehicles. International Motors employs about 14,500 people worldwide and has a network of roughly 1,000 dealer outlets across North and South America. The transition displaces over 1,300 workers, though Roshel has not yet announced hiring preferences for former International employees.
