Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center in Spokane evacuated due to wildfires

The Mann-Grandstaff Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Spokane, Washington, was evacuated on August 1, 2026, due to the Spokane Complex Fire, which has destroyed at least 600 buildings and burned over 8,000 acres with 0% containment as of August 3. Patients were transferred to local hospitals, and 27 patients are being cared for at area shelters. The medical center, located less than a third of a mile from the fire perimeter, remains closed. More than 60,000 people have been evacuated from the area. The fire, fueled by high winds, began on Saturday and is part of three fires collectively known as the Spokane Complex Fire. VA outpatient clinics and business operation centers are also closed. The facility has 46 beds and over 1,400 full-time positions.
