National Coast Guard Museum to open on August 2, 2027

The National Coast Guard Museum, decades in the making, is scheduled to open on August 2, 2027, on the banks of the Thames River in New London, Connecticut. The 80,000-square-foot facility will feature three exhibit floors with over 5,000 photos and 600 artifacts, including an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter and the Medal of Honor awarded to Signalman First Class Douglas Munro. Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Kevin Lunday stated the museum will honor the service's history and inspire future generations. The project received nearly $50 million from Congress in 2022 and an additional $50 million in 2025. A dedication ceremony is planned for Coast Guard Day, August 4, 2027, the 237th anniversary of the Revenue Cutter Service's establishment. The museum will complete the set of national museums for all U.S. armed services except the Space Force.
