Chelsea and Rayo Vallecano reach agreement for left-back Chavarría

Chelsea and Rayo Vallecano have reached a near-final agreement for the transfer of 28-year-old Spanish left-back Chavarría, according to TA journalist DO. The player has agreed personal terms, and only a medical examination remains to finalize the deal. Chelsea prioritized signing a left-back after starter Cucurella left for Real Madrid for €60 million in June, leaving only Hato as a natural left-back in the first team. Chavarría, a defensive pillar for Rayo Vallecano, helped the team reach the UEFA Europa Conference League final last season, playing the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace. He has made 125 appearances for Rayo since joining from Zaragoza in 2022, with a contract until 2030 and a €50 million release clause. Chelsea has been active this summer, signing Palestra, Quenda, Dena, Satpayev, Emega, Morgan Rogers, Welbeck, Lacroix, and Henderson, while Mudryk returned to training.
