FIFA President Gianni Infantino has withdrawn the controversial Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal after facing overwhelming backlash from member associations globally. The plan would have created a $20 billion commercial subsidiary, allowing private investors to buy stakes in FIFA competitions like the World Cup. UEFA was the first to unanimously oppose it, threatening a boycott, followed by CONCACAF and AFC. Infantino had set a September 19 deadline for a vote, needing 106 'yes' votes, and relied on financial incentives for smaller nations, particularly in Oceania and the Caribbean, to secure approval. However, internal pressure mounted as New Zealand Football rejected the plan, and Real Kakamora, a leading Oceanian club, urged rejection. Sensing even cash-strapped nations would not agree, FIFA conceded. The opposition from Oceania, which would have joined other confederations in rejecting the proposal, was the final breaking point. Infantino now faces calls for his resignation.
