TechNavantia, the Spanish shipbuilding company, conducted the first static dive of the S82 'Narciso Monturiol', the second submarine in the S80 series, on Tuesday near La Algameca Naval Base in Cartagena. The test, performed by Navantia personnel and the trials crew, aimed to verify hull behavior, ballast tank flooding, and static stability ahead of submerged navigation trials. The S80 program is progressing on schedule, with diesel engines recently installed on the third submarine, S83 'Cosme García', including three generator sets, the main electric motor, and the anaerobic air-independent propulsion (AIP) system. Navantia Chairman Ricardo Domínguez highlighted the program's contribution to Spain's strategic submarine autonomy and industrial capabilities, noting the second submarine will be delivered soon.
