American Rheinmetall wins U.S. Army contract for autonomous hybrid supply vehicles

American Rheinmetall has been awarded an 18-month U.S. Army contract under Project Sustainment to develop autonomous unmanned ground vehicles based on Harbinger's plug-in hybrid platform. The vehicles are designed to autonomously transport supplies to frontline troops, reducing soldier risk. The contract runs through the National Advanced Mobility Consortium (NAMC). American Rheinmetall serves as prime contractor, with Forterra providing autonomous driving software and Primordial Labs contributing a natural-language voice command interface called Anura. The hybrid platform can also supply up to 350 kW of exportable power, potentially serving as mobile power sources. Harbinger CEO John Harris highlighted the adaptation of proven commercial technology for military use. The award expands American Rheinmetall's footprint in ground robotics.
