OKI to supply OQQ-25 towed sonars for Australia's 'Upgraded Mogami' frigates

Japanese electronics firm OKI has signed a contract with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to supply OQQ-25 towed sonar systems for the first three of Australia's planned 11 next-generation multi-purpose frigates, known as the 'Upgraded Mogami' class (06FFM). The Australian government selected the improved Mogami-class design in August 2025 and announced contracts in April 2026. This marks OKI's first overseas equipment transfer project. The OQQ-25 is already integrated on Japan's Mogami-class destroyers. The Royal Australian Navy expects delivery of the first frigate in 2029.
