US Coast Guard seizes 2,380 lbs of marijuana near Bahamas

On July 30, 2026, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Charles Sexton, in coordination with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, seized approximately 2,380 pounds of suspected marijuana valued at $2.8 million from a drug-smuggling vessel about 80 miles southwest of Great Inagua, Bahamas. The crew discovered 97 bales of marijuana aboard the vessel. Three individuals were taken into custody and transferred to Bahamian authorities for prosecution. The operation was supported by the Homeland Security Cutter-Ocean initiative, which uses commercial vessels to deliver supplies and personnel to Coast Guard cutters at sea, enhancing operational endurance.
